• A National Seminar on Addressing Security and Development Issues in Assam” organmzed by MAKAIAS at Guwahati held on March28, 2009.
• A National Seminar on “Islamic Society in Kerala after independence- Problems and Perspectives” organized by MAKAIAS in collaboration with the Malabar Institute for Research and Development, Kozhikode; Keraleeyan Smaraka Samithi, Calicut at Calicut during January 16- 17, 2009.
• The National Education Day was observed to commemorate the 120th Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and in respect to that the Azad Memorial Lecture was delivered by Professor Peter Ronald de Souza, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) Shimla on November 11, 2008.
• Professor Shereen Ratnagar, former Professor Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University delivered a Lecture on September 27, 2008 at the Seminar Room of the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities Calcutta University, organized by MAKAIAS.
• A National Conference on “Representing People, Redefining Society Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Popular Culture” was organized by MAKAIAS in collaboration with the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Calcutta on August 28-29, 2008 at the Auditorium of the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Calcutta.
• Dr. Suchandana Chatterjee, Ms. Arpita Basu Roy and Ms. Priya Singh, Fellows, MAKAIAS participated in the Fourth IAAPS Conference at Viswa- Bharati, Shantiniketan during August 22-24, 2008.
• A One Day Seminar on “Urban Experiences: India, China and Chinese Indians” was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at the Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Calcutta, in association with the ORF India China Centre supported by Kolkata Municipal Corporation and MAKAIAS on August 5, 2008
• Sri. Soumya Kanti Mitra, Fellow, MAKAIAS and Dr. P.K. Sengupta, former Consultant (F&A) of the Institute attended a Two- Day National Seminar on “Origin, Migration and the other Aspects of Culture of the Singphows” held on June 27-28, 2008 at Guwahati.
• Ms. Monika Mondal, Fe1low, MAKAIAS, participated and presented a paper entitled “Marginalized Groups: Problems and Internal Displacement in Contemporary India” at the ‘National Level Seminar on “Marginalized Groups: Problems and Prospects in Contemporary India” held on March 5-6, 2008 at Vidyasagar University.
• A National Seminar on “Sunderbans Biodiversity-Threats, Managements & Conservation” was Organized by MAKAIAS in collaboration with the Department of Marine Science, University of Calcutta at Sunderban, West Bengal during January 5-7, 2008
• The institute organized a National Symposium on ‘Administrative Reforms for Economic Development in Northeast India at Shillong on 12 July 2007.
• A Two Day National Conference on ‘Sikkim in the Perspective of the Development Dynamics of East and Northeast India” was organized by MAKAIAS in collaboration with the Eco-tourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim (ECOSS) at the Chumbi Residency, Gangtok on November 19-20, 2007.
